Home and Market

My obsession for compartmentalization has driven my desicions, choices and of course, what apps I am using. Now in the real world there are two places where you can be, one is Home and another is Market.

Home

Is a place where you can be you, just YOU with your own closely related people around you. That is the place where your mind rests, sleep, you do all sorts of intimate things you do with yourselves. A wall gaurded area where you and only you exist. A place where you or your loved ones cook meal and enjoy it together. So, you have to understand what home is first. Home is where you think and dream. Home has the privacy and security. I mean that is the place where you or your parents have put their money and efforts to have a comfortable and secure area to survive. I hope I was able to make you clear what home is.

Market

Is a place where people come out of their homes and interact with other people coming out of their homes.

People do all sorts of things in market:

• By the means of money they exchange good and services.
• Do their jobs and are paid.
• Do and see advertising.
• Be distracted and distract others.
• Sell and buy.

After doing all these things they come back to home (a safe place) and go to the market again.

Market and Home are two very different environments and when these two environments are mixed up Chaos occurs. It is very subtle but there is chaos.

Till now what I am talking about is a real world, tangible concept. You can actually be in home or market with your body and touch, hold, smell, sense and feel it with your sensory organs. But after this sentence I will be dwelling upon the Digital world, the world which is similar to the real world as the real people created that digital world. That world is not real world at all.

Digital Home

Devices are so much of a big part of our lives now, they are inseperable. As the tech rise people are doing everything literally every thing using devices. Similar to our real home, people have a home in digital world. Not everything can be done in digital world what can be done in the real one like sleeping, eating and pooping.

But all the other things can be done there:

• People can talk to their loved ones, see them, interact with them.
• Share information to them.
• Keep intimate moments.

Basically communicate their thoughts and knowledge to other important people.

Digital Market

Now this is a place in digital world where all sorts of Market things that people are doing in the real world, those can be done.

• With the means of digital money people can exchange good and services.
• Do their jobs and get paid.
• Do and see advertising.
• Be distracted and distract others.
• Sell and buy.

The chaos:

In real world, Home and Market are separated with physical distance, walls, buildings. People cannot just be in Home and in Market at a same time. I mean you actually have to walk, drive to the market and back.

In digital world, Home and Market are not separeted by physical distance. They are separated by a very, very thin wall maybe that wall can be seen as few pixels away in device’s screen. This can be said like, the distance between two logos of Apps.

Through one touch people can be in their Digital Home and with other touch they can be in Digital Market while being in their real home or market. Now this is very important you need to understand this, read these sentences again if you didn’t digest it.

It take just a tap to chaos.

The wall needs to be thicked!

As I talked about the very very thin wall that separates the Digital Home with Digital Market that needs to be thicked or completely separated. Like in the real world as we need to walk or drive to buy the milk. This separation is important to understand, what happens is often people toggle between Digtal home and Digital Market, they get it all mixed up and they don’t even know if they are in Digital home or Digital Market. I feel people have created a misconception that their Digital market is their Digital home.

Now the distinct features and activties I have discussed above between Home and Market will help you to better understand what is what.

1. A mall, is a real market where you go and shop things.

2. An apartment is a real home where you sleep.

3. Amazon’s Website, Application is digital market.

4. Movie theater is real market.

5. Netflix is a digital market.

6. Instagram is digital market, there are many people doing business and you see adveristments.

7. Whatsapp (Critical) is deemed to be digital market.

   • Whatsapp has a very thin spectrum that makes it a digital home and digital market.

8. Youtube is a digital market.

9. Signal, XMPP, SimpleX these are digital homes.

You can try with other applications and website that you use.

Here, i took my little sister’s phone and added these market apps in a directory named market and instructed her, that whenever she opens an app from the market, do think about entering the actual market because that is what she’s experience in market.

That way she can distinguish where is home and where is market.

For example, you are reading this, I am not making money out of this site, there are no advertisments in this site. This is in digital market though but it can be seen as a digital public free library.
